The project won a pitching prize in Kosovo and was returning from a presentation at the DOK Leipzig market.

Avenge has a budget of nearly 500,000 EUR and has received development funding from Creative Europe, the Slovenian Film Fund and the Kosovo Film Fund. The film is a coproduction with Kosovo. Hocevar wants to bring a coproducer from Albania on board.

The documentary looks at the modern resurgence of the Albanian custom of blood feuds, which were effectively stopped during the reign of communist dictator Enver Hoxha. However, instead of looking at it as an exotic practice, Zidar will explore the issue of corruption that has become a part of the ritual, particularly in respect to the negotiators. Zidar has been researching the film for three years, with the assistance of her young Albanian DoP Latif Hasoll beginning in 2014. Hocevar joined the project in 2014. Development will last through 2016, with production scheduled for 2017-2018.
