FESTIVALS: Sparrows Wins Febiofest

    PRAGUE: Sparrows by Rúnar Rúnarsson won the Grand Prix of the 23rd Prague International Film Festival – Febiofest, which ran from 17 to 25 March 2016 in Prague. A number of films from the selection will screen at the regional Echoes of Febiofest in 14 Czech towns from 29 March to 21 April 2016.

    The Silence of the River by Carlos Trivino was awarded the Amnesty International Febiofest Award, while Kristián Awards for Contribution to World Cinema went to the legendary Italian film director Marco Bellocchio, Slovak actress Emília Vašáryová, Scottish actor and director Peter Mullan, iconic Spanish actress Carmen Maura and screenwriter Peter Morgan.

    Twelve titles were selected for the New Europe Competition while another ten films competed for the Amnesty International Febiofest Award. This year’s festival's Grand Prix was again awarded by a jury of 33 film fans, led by an honorary chairman.

    Febiofest was attended by more than 50 international guests and had more than 62,000 spectators.
