The 90 minute TV historical drama made for ZDF is directed by Esther Gronenborn. Based on true events taking place between 1945 – 1951, it tells the story of the secret Wehnen psychiatric clinic on the German-Dutch border, where Nazis sent people who were not willing to cooperate with the regime. Similarily to concentration camps, they let the patients starve to death.
The German production company is Nordfilm GmbH, and Mia Film is handling the shoot in the Czech Republic. Shooting will continue till mid July at locations in Prague, Terezin and Budin – Boharyne, all subbing for Germany, where the story takes place. Most of the crew and all extras are Czech, and the actors are German, with the exception of some cameo roles played by Czech actors. The release is planned for 2017.
Other ZDF productions shot this year in the Czech Republic include The Glassblower and State Justice.
