Prague Film Fund Announces Its First Call

By

PRAGUE: The Prague Film Fund, which was established in 2016 to support the positive presentation of the Czech capital abroad through film and television production, announced its first call on its new website http://praguefilmfund.eu/en/call-for-applications/. The call is open until 31 May 2017, with the total allocated amount of 340,651 EUR / 9m CZK.

Eligible projects (feature films, television films or series) intended for distribution abroad, must fulfil the essential condition of portraying Prague as itself and not as a stand-in for another city. Applications can be submitted only for projects which began filming between 1 January 2016 and 30 June 2017.

Among other important criteria are number of planned filming days at locations in Prague, marketing potential of the project in terms of tourism, territories, the form and extent of foreign distribution, benefits of the presentation of Prague in terms of the topic and role of Prague in film or series.

"Since the launch of film incentives in 2010, the volume of international film production in the Czech Republic grew fivefold. The international spend for services and goods connected with shooting is currently around 151.4 m EUR / 4 billion CZK," said Ludmila Claussová, Chairwoman of the Administrative Board of the new fund. "The capital decided to connect both trends – the increase of international production on the one hand and destination marketing on the other – and use the incoming productions to promote Prague as a film friendly destination."
