The Georgian National Film Center will present the Georgian stand at the Cannes Film Market (Marché du Film Online) for the fourteenth time from 6 to 17 July, where the team of the GNFC will work in the industrial direction. The GNFC will organise a variety of events, including meetings with film agents, educational organisations and representatives of film festivals like the Berlin, Locarno, San Sebastian and Trieste International Film Festivals.

It is noteworthy that this year Tengiz Abuladze's film Repentance (1984) returns to one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world after 34 years. This time the film will be presented in the section "Cannes Classics." Avtandil Makharadze, who plays the leading role in the film, and Nana Janelidze, the co-author of the script of Repentance, will attend the screening.

The world premiere of Repentance took place in Cannes in 1987. The film won three awards at the Film Festival - the Jury Grand Prix, the Fipresci Award and the Catholic Church Jury Prize for Humanism. Repentance was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film in 1988. The leading roles in the film are played by Georgian theatre and film stars.

The Cannes International Film Festival screens films in the highest quality digital format, so the Georgian National Film Center, with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia, started digitising and restoring the film in January 2020. Due to the complexity of the work to be performed, the film was scanned in Prague by the Czech studio UPP  (Universal Production Partners - Prague), and the so-called "grading", colour and sound processing was carried out in Georgia by the studio "Phonograph" under the leadership of Paata Godziashvili. It should be mentioned that Paata Godziashvili will also attend the screening of the film at the Cannes Film Festival.

The section "Cannes Classics" exists since 2004. The section includes films formerly screened in the programme of the film festival, which are offered to the viewers in the digital format this time.
