Reflecting on her nine year long career as the head of National Film Centre of Latvia, Gailite-Holmberga points to the passage of the Film Law in 2010 as one of her most important achievements. This law defined requirements for a domestic film in order to receive national funding, while stimulating the growth and development of the industry.
The new director will be chosen by Ministry of Culture of Latvia as a result of a competition, which was announced on 24 January and will be open until 14 February 2014. Gailite-Holmberga's successor will most likely take up duties at the beginning of March 2014, said Astra Spalvena, information and international relations officer of the National Film Centre of Latvia.
