The film has now been sold to Latin America (Encripta), Greece and Cyprus (Piece of Cake S.A), Belgium, Denmark, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo (Banana Film), Bulgaria (A Plus Films), and Serbia (Vans Film).
Kaymak premiered in competition at the 35th Tokyo IFF and later screened at film festivals in Bari, Belgrade and Sofia, winning the Directors Week Jury's Special Award at Fantasporto.
The film was produced by Jane Kjortoshev through Banana Film, and coproduced by Meta Louise Foldager Sørensen and Mette Børch through Meta Film (Denmark), Els Vandevorst and Isabella Depeweg through N279 Entertainment (the Netherlands), Siniša Juričić through Nukleus film (Croatia) and the Macedonian Radio Television. The executive producer is Ian Pryor of UK’s Scala Productions.
The production was financed through the North Macedonia Film Agency, the Danish Film Institute, the Netherlands Film Fund and the Netherlands Film Production Incentive, as well as Eurimages and the Croatian Audiovisual Centre.
Filming took place entirely in Skopje.
