Cinema Attendance Soars in Central and Eastern Europe

    MILAN: Central and Eastern Europe registered a 10.1 percent rise in cinema attendance in 2017 according to the newly released report by MEDIA Salles.

    Serbia had the greatest increase, up 27.7 percent, with Slovakia also reporting a strong gain of 18.1 percent and Georgia up 12.4 percent. Lithuania was solid with a 10.7 percent rise, followed by Poland, which was up 8.7 percent.

    The increases are in stark contrast with results from Western Europe, which showed and overall drop of 1.5 percent.

    In other territories, Romania continued its upward trend with a 7.4 percent increase in admissions. Estonian admission rose by 6.7 percent and Croatia grew by 5.7 percent.

    Bulgaria, Cyprus, Slovenia, Latvia and the Czech Republic showed small declines, raging from 0.7 – 2.5 percent.
