Raindance launches first CEE partnership in Hungary

By FNE Staff

BUDAPEST: London-based Raindance has launched its first partnership in CEE, Raindance Budapest (budapest.raindance.org), spearheaded by Daniel Kresmery. The independent filmmaker's training program has started off with an initial series of weekly training sessions that runs through 2 November 2010.

Titled the Filmmaker's Foundation Certificate course, the six week series is taught by six experts, with participants eligible to sign up for individual weekly sessions.

Next up is the Elliot Grove Low Budget Scriptwriting class and the LoToNo Budget Filmmaking weekend workshop on 25, 27, and 28 November 2010 (budapest.raindance.org/english/lo-to-no-budget-filmmaking/ and www.budapest.raindance.org/kepzesek/writing-for-low-budget-films/ ).

Kresmery told FNE, "We will also have a VFX weekend workshop in December, and are planning a directing workshop for January, where the students actually shoot and direct their own short film."

Speaking of the new venture, Raindance founder Elliot Grove said, "Our goal has always been to promote and help new talent and find new audiences. Budapest is going through an exciting filmmaking boom right now on all levels. There are a lot of talented and enthusiastic filmmakers who want to break into the international film industry. They just need a little help understanding the tricks and trades of this unique industry."

Kresmery said the Budapest project is filling a market void for practical information. "We believe people today can make marketable films if they possess enough ideas, talent, and energy, without necessarily having to study film aesthetics for 4 years in film school." He added, "Our main goal is to connect the Budapest community to other independent communities of filmmakers, and to be a catalyst however we can for more filmmaking."
