Together with co-writer Alexandru Doru Spătaru, Ionescu is adapting the novella of Romanian writer and screenwriter Titus Popovici . The story is set in the 1980's, when a middle-aged man has to cremate his still-born baby which he carries in a shoe box. At that time, newborn babies were officially registered two weeks after they were born, in order to keep the statistics up-to-date. If they died within the first two weeks, they were unofficially registered in a special file.
Mihai Ionescu is producing through his company Gef Art Film with Alexandru Doru Spătaru as delegate producer. The project received a production grant of 179,310 Euro (780,000 RON) from the National Center for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro) in November 2011. Mihai Ionescu told FNE that almost 25% of the budget of 1.4 million EUR is in place and that he is looking for possible co-producers.
The DOP and the cast are not yet known. Shooting will take place in Bucharest, but the dates are not yet settled. However, the film might be finished in 2014. There is no sales agent attached to the project yet.
