Romanian viewers can rent the film online for 24 hours for 5 USD. The film was released in Romanian cinemas by Micro Film in 2017 with good results for a domestic debut feature. It was the fourth most successful domestic film with 31,550 admissions and 81,587 EUR / 378,209 RON gross in 15 weeks since its release.
Its success was due to the fact that the film was inspired by the director’s own experience at the Orthodox Theological Seminary, where he faced an abusive system.
One Step behind the Seraphim was produced by Ada Solomon through HiFilm Productions, with the support of the Romanian Film Centre . The French company Indie Sales is handling the sales.
The first Romanian film released on Vimeo was Tudor Giurgiu's Why Me? / De ce eu? (Libra Film) in 2015. In December 2015 Romanian independent film Transylvanian Garlic / Usturoi directed by Lucian Alexandrescu and produced by Dianatic was also released on Vimeo.
However Matei Truța, Distribution Manager with the Romanian company Transilvania Film (distributing art house films) told FNE in April 2017 that “the specifics of the Romanian market are such, that both VOD and Home Video are rather underdeveloped” .
