CLUJ-NAPOCA: Twelve first and second feature films have been selected for the main competition of the 18th Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF), which will be held in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, from 31 May to 9 June 2019. Among them is the Romanian coproduction Monsters. by Marius Olteanu, awarded with the Tagesspiegel Readers' Jury Award at the 2019 Berlin International Film Festival, where it screened in the Forum section.

“This year I was interested mainly in those films that don’t cling to the socio-political context by either eluding it completely or inserting it subtly into intimate stories, which are audaciously explored beyond their consequences”, Mihai Chirilov, the artistic director of the festival, said in a statement.

Tudor Giurgiu’s new film Parking aka Above Man, the Woman Soars, his first film shot outside Romania, will open the festival as a world premiere. Giurgiu, who is the director of TIFF, produced it through Romania's Libra Film in coproduction with Spain's Tito Clint Movies and Evolution Films from the Czech Republic.

The most important film festival in Romania will screen more than 200 titles this year.
