FNE at TIFF 2019 Romanian Days: Arrest

    CLUJ-NAPOCA: Andrei Cohn’s sophomore feature Arrest / Arest will screen in the Romanian Days at the 18th Transilvania IFF, running through 9 June 2019. The film was also selected for the East of the West section of the 54th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (28 June – 6 July 2019).

    The story is set in the 80s and follows an ordinary man, an architect played by Alexandru Papadopol, who after a day spent at the seaside on a nudist beach near an industrial facility is taken into custody by the communist police and put in the same cell with an informer and torturer (Iulian Postelnicu). Andrei Cohn and Alexandru Negoescu wrote the script.

    The cast includes András Hatházi, Liviu Pintilieasa, Sorin Cociș and Marian Alexoaia.

    Anca Puiu produced through Mandragora with a budget of around 330,000 EUR. The project was supported by the Romanian Film Centre and the Romanian Television (TVR).

    Shooting took place at the Romanian seaside and in Bucharest in 2017. Andrei Butică (Ana, mon amour, Parada Film) lensed.

    The film will be released in domestic cinemas by Iadasarecasa in the autumn of 2019.
