Mihai Mincan’s debut feature To the North / Spre nord (Romania, France, Greece, Bulgaria, Czech Republic), which had 13 nods, won Best Debut Film, Best Cinematography and Best Newcomer (Niko Becker).
Internationally acclaimed Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World / Nu aștepta prea mult de la sfârșitul lumii (Romania, Luxembourg, France, Croatia) by Radu Jude won only the award for Best Leading Actress (Ilinca Manolache) and best script ex-aequo, from 11 nods, while Cristi Puiu’s MMXX (Romania, Republic of Moldova, France), which had 6 nods, left empty handed.
Between Revolutions / Între revoluții (Romania, Croatia, Qatar, Iran) by Vlad Petri received the award for Best Documentary.
This year, 32 feature and long documentary films that premiered in cinemas and on platforms in 2023 were submitted, and around 700 people from the film industry voted for the winners.
The Gopo Awards were organised by Romanian Film Promotion with support from the Romanian Film Centre, Dacin Sara and Babel Communications.
