    BELGRADE: Dane Komljen’s The Garden Cadences scooped the award for Best Film in the Serbian Competition of the 17th Beldocs, held in Belgrade 22 - 29 May 2024. The main award in the International Competition went to the Estonian documentary Sundial directed by Liis Nimik.

    The programme of the festival boasted 103 films, among which 13 were world, one European, 59 Regional and 24 Serbian premieres, as well as 23 developing projects in different phases of production. The Serbian Competition consisted of 12 long and short films. 

    This year’s special section, guest curated by the philosopher Srećko Horvat, had the theme: Survival Is Not Enough, and included panels, talks and lectures.

    A total of 20 documentary film projects in various stages of production were presented to international TV channels, festivals, sales agents and distribution companies at the Beldocs Pitching Forum, the main event of Beldocs Industry Days (23 - 26 May 2024).

    The industry segment also included the Producers Meet Producers networking event, Play.Docs serious video games programme, as well as two workshops aimed at developing film projects: Beldocs XR Academy (focusing on virtual reality and augmented reality projects), and Balkan Young Talents (focusing on promising young filmmakers from the Western Balkans region).

    Beldocs was supported by the European Union through the Creative Europe MEDIA, the Republic of Serbia Ministry of Culture and Information, EU Delegation to Serbia, Central European Initiative, Film Center Serbia, Film Centre of Montenegro, the Embassy of Spain, Goethe Institute, Austrian Cultural Forum, Polish Institute, French Institute, Collegium Hungaricum, Czech Centre Belgrade, Ji.hlava IDFF, Al Jazeera Balkans TV, DOX TV, Current Time TV, as well as Insajder TV.
