In its initial week in distribution, ending 30 October 2016, At Hostar attracted 45,118 viewers, while the Czech animation Pat and Mat in a Movie (Pat a Mat Studio) in the second place and the US action drama Deepwater Horizon attracted just above 1,000 viewers each, opening the same week. In the first week At Hostar earned 268,606 EUR, which was 61% of the total weekly Slovenian box office. It also set this year’s opening weekend record with 28,160 admissions.
The film repeated its success over the 3 - 6 November week-end, when it attracted another 27,290 viewers, holding on to the number one spot in Slovenia ahead of the children’s film Trolls in the second spot with 12,452 admissions. After the first two weeks of its release At Hostar reached a box office total of almost 500,000 EUR and is expected to exceed 100,000 admissions in the next few days.
“When we started we didn’t have a clue about how many people will want to see our film. But our group effort, hard work in production and warming up with short episodes posted on the internet, obviously paid off,” executive producer Dejan Krupić told FNE. Director Luka Marčetić added: “I am delighted to see that all predictions we had about the movie results were wrong. By at least ten times!”
The film was produced by Goran Hrvaćanin and Dejan Krupić through Kerlc Film in coproduction with Bojan Mastilović through Iridum Film. “The budget was minimal. We just managed to cover basic costs for the technical crew during production and postproduction. Other sources came from sponsors and our friends and technical support also came from Miha Černec and Peter Prevece,” says Krupić.
The 25-days shooting took place at Bled and its surroundings, at Zatrnik and Koritno in April and May 2016.
