Director Todd Haynes scores a slot in the Cannes competition line-up with this seventh feature Wonderstruck based on author Brian Selznick’s critically acclaimed 2011 epic fable for children.  Selznick is also known as a children’s book illustrator and the Haynes film follows in this groove with the main fascination of the film being its striking visuals. Selznick also wrote the screenplay for the film.

Director Sofia Coppola has decided to do a remake of director Don Siegel’s Civil War made more than 40 years ago that starred Clint Eastwood. The decision is a strange one and the result is Beguiled a film that succeeds on some fronts but not on others.

FNE has teamed up with FIPRESCI critics attending the Venice Film Festival to rate the films in the Main Competition, Orizzonti, Venice Days and Critics giving the films 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 stars.

VENICE: The 74th Venice Film Festival has announced its main competition lineup along with the films in the Orizzonti competition and films screening in official selection in other parts of the programme. 

KARLOVY VARY: The Czech/Slovak and Italian coproduction Little Crusader directed by Václav Kadrnka took home the Crystal Globe and a cash prize of 25,000 USD at the 52 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival held from 30 June to 8 July in Czech spa town of Karlovy Vary.

KARLOVY VARY: The Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival announced the four recipients of the Ji.hlava Film Fund during Karlovy Vary Film Festival, as well as presenting its lineup of new Docu Talents for 2017 and its Emerging Producers 2018.

KARLOVY VARY: The Czech National Film Archives has signed an agreement with distribution company Janus Films, the company behind the prestigious Criterion Collection, to licence 30 Czech classic film titles for North America. The films will be released over a 10 year period with English subtitles on DVD, online, on television and in cinemas.
