The 31st Istanbul Film Festival Ended
The 31st Istanbul Film Festival organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts under the sponsorship of AKBANK ended on Sunday, 15 April.
Throughout two weeks, a total of 140 thousand cinephiles watched 220 films by 232 directors from 52 countries at 522 screenings grouped under 22 sections, in 7 movie theatres. In addition to the screenings that were realised with 70% occupancy rate, the festival featured twelve master classes, panel discussions, a special concert, and a workshop with the participation of the guests of the festival.

FNE at Istanbul FF 2012: Istanbul Film Festival Prize winners
ISTANBUL: Two Turkish films dominated the National Competition at this year’s 31st Istanbul Film Festival (www.iksv.org). Beyond the Hill directed by Emin Alper won the Golden Tulip for best film, best actress, best screenplay as well as the international film critic’s FIPRESCI award for best film in the National Competition. Inside directed by Zeki Demirkubuz won prizes for best director, best actor, best cinematography, best editing, and the People’s Choice audience award. Also making a strong showing was The Trace directed by M Tayfur Aydin with a Special Jury Prix and a best music award.
Beyond the Hill which had its world premier earlier this year at the Berlin FF is a debut for Alper who has written about film and made several short films. Inside which had its world premier at the festival is the latest work from Demirkubuz who is one of Turkey's top directors. ISTANBUL: Festival on Wheels team Ahmet Boyacicoglu and Basak Emre have moved into film production with Inside directed by Zeki Demirkubiz which had its world premier at Istanbul FF (www.iskv.org).
Boyacicoglu and Emre are best
known on the international scene for their work producing film festivals
including the Wheels (wwwlfestivalonwheels.org) and the Adana Golden Boll Film
Festival (www.goldenbollfilmfestival.
The duo have already produced a short film compilation Tales from Kars and Boyacicoglu’s own Black and White which he also scripted and directed. But the Demirkubuz production marks the first time they have taken on the role of producers of another director’s feature project.

Audiences and foreign guests at the 31 Istanbul International
Film Festival (www.iksv.org) now underway have
the chance to see the latest in new Turkish films in the National Competition
with 12 new titles including director Umit Unal's The Pomegranate and Zeki Demirkubuz's new Inside. There are also
another five new titles screening Out of Competition and another 10 titles in
the New Turkish Cinema section and 12 new Turkish docs.
In the main International Competition 11 films on the themes of art compete for the Golden Tulip which is given in honour of Sakir Eczacıbası, former chaırman of IKSV, and co-founder of the Istanbul Fılm Festıval.

Q:In Courage, you had to act a man who was in
essence a coward, and in In Darkness, your character is quite courageous in
