BRATISLAVA: The acclaimed Slovak director Marko Škop is currently in production with his psychological drama Anna. His third feature film, which is a Slovak/Czech coproduction, tells the story of a 30-year-old neurologist, who lives in one apartment with her mother.

BRATISLAVA: The 18th edition of the Slovak Queer Film Festival is screening more than 30 feature-length films, as well as over 30 short films from 25 countries. The festival takes place at the Lumiѐre Cinema and Kino Film Europe in Bratislava till 26 November 2024.

BRATISLAVA: Ivan Ostrochovský and Pavol Pekarčík were awarded the main prize for directing Photophobia / Svetloplachosť at the 35th edition of the IGRIC Awards held in Bratislava on 22 September 2024. These are the oldest film prizes in Slovakia and one of the two important national film awards in the country, alongside the Sun in a Net Awards.

PIEŠŤANY: The horror drama Substance directed by Coralie Fargeat received the Meeting Point Europe Award in the main competition of the 19th edition of the IFF Cinematik Piešťany, which took place in the spa city of Piešťany from 10 to 15 September 2024.

BRATISLAVA: Slovak director Jana Bučka Kovalčíková is finishing production on her documentary Milota, which tells the story of the renowned Slovak photographer Milota Havránková. The Slovak Audiovisual Fund is supporting the project.

BRATISLAVA: The Slovak/Czech coproduction We're Going to Team Building by Zuzana Marianková had the best admissions in Slovak cinemas in the first half of 2024. With 246,659 admissions and 1,846,694 EUR gross profit, it overranked such blockbusters as Inside Out 2 (195,718 admissions) and Dune: Part Two (171,107 admissions).

BRATISLAVA: Nine titles have been selected for Meeting Point Europe, the main competition of the 19th edition of the IFF Cinematik Piešťany, which will take place in the Slovak spa city of Piešt'any 10 – 15 September 2024.

KOŠICE: Goodbye Julia by Sudanese director Mohamed Kordofani won the Blue Angel in the International Competition of the 30th Art Film Fest, while the Polish film Ultima Thule by Klaudiusz Chrostowski won the main prize in the new International Film Competition from Central and Eastern Europe. The festival took place in Košice, Slovakia 21 – 28 June 2024.

BRATISLAVA: The acclaimed Slovak director Peter Bebjak is currently in preproduction with his biographical feature Duchoň, based on the life of famous Slovak singer Karol Duchoň, who died tragically at the age of 35 in 1985. The production of the film should start in a few weeks.

BRATISLAVA: The futuristic action film Afterburn directed by J.J. Perry and starring Dave Bautista and Samuel L.Jackson is currently filming in Bratislava. The service in Slovakia is provided by Monsters films, s.r.o.
