WARSAW: The Mazovia Warsaw Film Fund has supported 13 projects with coproduction funding of over 491,000 EUR / 2 m PLN within its 14th annual competition. 

WARSAW: Celebrated Polish actor, director and educator Jerzy Stuhr passed away at the age of 77, after a long battle with cancer.

WARSAW: In a significant move, the Polish Parliament has passed an amendment to the copyright law that secures royalties for creators and performers of audiovisual works, as well as those behind spoken-word and musical-literary creations, when their works are made available online. This landmark decision has been hailed as a major objective achieved by ZAPA, the Union of Audiovisual Authors and Producers.

WARSAW: Karolina Rozwód has been appointed as the new director of the Polish Film Institute (PISF). The decision, made after an extensive selection process, marks a new chapter for the organisation.

WARSAW: Grzegorz Łoszewski was elected as the new President of the Polish Filmmakers Association (SFP) during the Ordinary General Meeting held in Warsaw on 22 June 2024. He will serve a two-year term, succeeding Jacek Bromski.

WARSAW: On 11 June 2024 the Polish film community gathered in front of the Sejm, rallying under the slogan Enough waiting for internet royalties! This protest coincided with the first reading of an amendment to the copyright law aimed at introducing internet royalties for Polish filmmakers.

WARSAW: Radosław Śmigulski has been dismissed from his position of the director of the Polish Film Institute (PISF), as Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, announced on 11 April 2024. Kamila Dorbach has been appointed as acting director of PISF.

WARSAW:  Poland's Minister of Culture Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz has pledged statutory royalties from the Internet for film creators following a meeting with a delegation of filmmakers, including representatives from the Young Circle of the Polish Filmmakers Association (ZAPA).

WARSAW: Agnieszka Holland's The Green Border / Zielona granica won Best Film at the 26th Polish Film Academy’s Polish Film Awards. Most of the statuettes, as many as six (Director, Screenplay, Supporting Actress, Sound, Makeup, Costume Design), went to Scarborn / Kos by Paweł Maślona. The gala was held on 4 March 2024 at the Polish Theatre in Warsaw.

WARSAW: One of Poland's top filmmakers Jacek Bromski has unexpectedly resigned before the end of the current term from the position of president of the Polish Filmmakers Association, which he held since 1996.
