Cyprus International Film Festival

    Join the 5th edition of the annual Cyprus International Film Festival in spectacular scenery, on the beautiful Mediterranean island. Film submission to the festival has been extended until July 30th due to the vast interest expressed by this year's applications. New, upcoming filmmakers who would like to share their vision for the world and cinema through their films (features, short films, animations) as well as showcase their talent in front of an internationally acclaimed jury are more than to welcome to send their film.

    By far the greatest glamour red-carpet event in the region, Cyprus International Film Festival takes place in the breathtaking city of Nicosia, between the 13th -22nd of October 2010. It represents the first internationally oriented film festival which offers new and upcoming directors in a great many sectors of entertainment (such as feature films, short films, animations, music videos, dance films and video art) the opportunity to showcase their talent in front of a jury of internationally acclaimed cinema experts, directors and actors.

    Being the cultural product of devoted and distinguished group of film professionals, not only does it allow cinema-goers to indulge into an overwhelming artistic wave of the most perspective and prospering film proposals, but also gives viewers the opportunity to project current cinema trends "back to their future", by screening tributes of great prodigies in filmmaking, as well as tributes of entire film schools. Furthermore, it supports talented young and upcoming directors, by giving them a major role to the festival's program as well as by encouraging them to prosper by awarding them.

    The awards are the "GOLDEN APHRODITE", film reels as well as crew services and shooting equipment prizes. Equally unique is the condition that these prizes must be utilized for their next project and spent in Cyprus and/or Greece.

    This year's edition includes some of the most outstanding film premieres in Golden Aphrodite that is the Competition section, socially oriented and provoking films in the Panorama section, some form and script-wise film innovations in the Short Films section and Animation Films section. The much awaited feature film "ARCADIA LOST" by Phedon Papamichael, starring Nick Nolte is one of the films that will be a premiere during the festival.

    Apart from the screening program and side events, this year's CYIFF edition consists of the "Actor in front of the camera" workshop. Organized by Thanassis Sarantos, an internationally acclaimed director and actor who has successfully showcased his talent through films and theatrical plays, the workshop aims to provide professional actors, directors, photographers and performing acts buffs the essential theoretical and practical background so as to deliver, capture, and strengthen performance in front of the camera.

    During the 5 days workshop, some outstanding film performances delivered by great actors and actresses are going to be screened. A short film will be shooted by the participants of the workshop that will be screened at the last day of the festival during the CYIFF 2010 Award ceremony on the 22nd of October in Pallas Theatre in Nicosia.
