Expendables Accused of Environmental Damage

By FNE Staff

SOFIA: The Bulgarian location shoot of Hollywood's The Expendables 2 starring Sylvester Stallone will be fined for destroying vegetation at an important environmental site in Bulgaria. The fine could range from 250 euros to 2,500 euros.

However, according to Bulgarian news sources, a more important issue is the potential harm to 13 endangered species of bats that live in the Devetashka Cave, where the damage occurred.

The alert of damage was filed by Green Balkans NGO. Experts say that disturbances to the area could be fatal to the bats, who are preparing to hibernate for the winter.

The Expendables production was in the headlines only two weeks earlier, when one stuntman was killed and another seriously injured during second unit shooting.

NU Boyana Film Studios (www.nuboyana.com) is producing. Filming began at the end of September, according to NU Boyana.
