Croatian Film Admissions Triple in 2012

    ZAGREB: Croatian films attracted 326,455 admissions in 2012, compared with 108,386 admissions in 2011.

    Twelve Croatian films opened locally in 2012 with 181,205 admissions. Together with the minority coproduction The Parade (Parada), which premiered on 15 December 2011, the total comes up to 326,455 admissions.

    Croatian films accounted for nearly 10 percent of all film admissions in Croatia, a total of 3,745,044. The total box office in 2012 was 14,746,700 EUR / 111,502,327 HRK.

    In 2011 Croatian films (including Parada and its first two weeks in cinemas) took in approximately 337,000 EUR / 2.5 m HRK.

    The top performing majority Croatian film was Lara's Choice: The Lost Prince (Larinizbor: Izgubljeni princ) which opened on 28 June 2012 and had 78,694 admissions and 242,736 EUR / 1,835,363 HRK box office. Vlatka Vorkapic's debut feature Sonja and the Bull (Sonja I bik) (www.interfilm.hr), released on 29 November 2012 in 13 prints, set a 10 years record for the best opening. The film is still in distribution, taking in 291,516 EUR / 2,204,200 HRK with admissions of 79,137 through the first three weekends of 2013.

    The results for 2013 started on a high note, with Vinko Bresan’s comedy The Priest’s Children (Svecenikova Djeca) (www.interfilm.hr) setting a 22-year domestic film record opening weekend with its 3 January 2013 premiere. It continues to dominate the box office with 82,950 admissions and box office of 325,767 EUR / 2,463,177 HRK on a release of 21 prints.

    Another 2013 box office contender, Dražen Žarković’s children’s film The Mysterious Boy (www.kinorama.hr), the sequel to the hit Koko and the Ghosts, will hit Croatian theaters on 28 February.
