Croatian Kids Film Tops Box Office

    The Brave Adventures of the Little Shoemaker The Brave Adventures of the Little Shoemaker

    ZAGREB: Silvije Petranovic’s adaptation of the classic children novel The Brave Adventures of the Little Shoemaker sold 21,693 tickets in its first weekend, outperforming Thor: The Dark World.

    This is the second best opening for a Croatian film and the best opening for a children’s film in the last 20 years.

    The film, distributed by Blitz Film & Video Distribution opened on 7 November 2013. The film was launched on 30 screens. Maydi Mervar Petranovic and Silvije Petranovic are producing through Maydi Film. The project was supported by the Croatian Audiovisual Center and by cities and municipalities from Croatia. The film stars Mile Biljanović, Ena Lulic and Goran Navojec.

    The Brave Adventures of the Little Shoemaker /Segrt Hlapic follows a little shoemaker’s apprentice (Hlapić) who meets a beautiful circus girl and fellow orphan while on a journey filled with obstacles and adventures.

    The distributors expect the film have more admissions than recent successful children films Koko and the Ghosts (Kinorama) with 80,000 admissions and The Mysterious Boy (Kinorama) with 70,000 admissions. A 1997 animated version of the story (from Croatia Film d.o.o.) by Milan Blažeković sold nearly 220,000 tickets.
