PRODUCTION: Dutch-Croatian-Belgian Coproduction Starts Shooting

    ZAGREB: Nicole van Kilsdonk’s children film When My Father Became a Bush has started shooting in Zagreb. This Dutch-Croatian-Belgian coproduction will spend approximately 655,500 EUR / 5 m HRK in Croatia. 

    The story based on the book written by the Dutch writer Joke van Leeuwen focuses on the theme of escaping war as told from the perspective of a 10 year-old girl. The main characters are played by Celeste Holsheimer, Matsen Montsma, Anneke Blok, and the cast includes Croatian actors such as Jan Kerekeš, Hrvojka Begović and Damir Poljičak.

    According to the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (havc.hr), the Dutch company Lemming Film is producing in coproduction with Croatia’s Nukleus Film and Minds Meet from Belgium.

    Filming started in Zagreb on 21 September 2015 and will wrap in 25 days-time. The project is benefitting from Croatia’s tax incentives scheme and will receive a 20% refund of costs amounting to 131,000 EUR / 1 m HRK. Two thirds of the crew are Croatian film professionals.
