PRODUCTION: Nicolas Cage and William Baldwin Shoot in Cyprus

NICOSIA: Nicolas Cage stars in Jiu Jitsu by Greek-American director and producer Dimitri Logothetis, the first international production to be shot entirely in Cyprus since the launch in 2018 of the cash rebates of up to 35 percent on qualifying expenditures.

According to Cypriot media, the science fiction martial arts film Jiu Jitsu will be shot from 24 June to 28 July 2019. Advertisements in the local media were posted by LBE JIU JITSU AVC LTD, a production company registered in Cyprus, in order to recruit 56 employees and to hire equipment.

Jiu Jitsu has production costs estimated at 24 m EUR and it is produced by Martin J. Barab and Dimitri Logothetis through the U.S Acme Rocket Fuel. The script is based on the comic book Jiu Jitsu, which Logothetis penned together with Jim McGrath. The cast includes Jeannine Kaspar, Marianna Rosset, Zach Rose and Christopher Greco, Tony Jaa, Frank Grillo, Alain Moussi, Rick Yune, Marie Avgeropoulos and JuJu Chan. Highland Film Group (HFG) is handling worldwide sales.

The Cypriot production SOS – Survive or Sacrifice by Roman Doronin, which is also benefiting from the new Cyprus rebates, already started shooting on 10 June 2019.

SOS – Survive or Sacrifice by Roman Doronin This English-language action-adventure film is produced by the Cyprus-based Altadium Group and will be shot around Limassol.

Cyprus launched the cash rebates in 2018. “This development is crucial for the growth of the Cypriot audiovisual industry, but also for the Cypriot economy as a whole, since it is a significant investment with multiple benefits that will promote our country worldwide,” the Initiative of Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency – Film in Cypru (Invest Cyprus) said.

Invest Cyprus received exclusive responsibility for the development of the audiovisual industry and the chair of the Incentive Plan application committee (EASO).
