    JIHLAVA: Latvian producer Antra Gaile is in early production with People from Nowhere, a Cold War era documentary directed by Estonian director Jaak Kilmi.

    Gaile presented the project at the Jihlava IDFF where she was selected as one of the Emerging Producers.

    The film with a budget of 320,000 EUR is produced by Mistrus Media and received development support from the Latvian Film Center. Development began in May 2014. The film is scheduled to be completed in early 2017. The film is coproduced by Kilmi’s Estonian company Pimik and the German company Kick Films.

    The film looks into the story of a Cold Was spy, Imants Lesinkis, who defected to the US and changed his name to Peter Dorn. The film is a personal story and a detective story with fictional recreations and original photos, told through the eyes of his daughter. The daughter was a student visiting her father on vacation in New York City when she had to make an immediate decision whether to defect with her father or return to her mother in Latvia.

    The project received a 7,500 EUR post-production award from Czech TV at the East Doc Platfrom 2015.
