Czech Law to Pump More Money into Czech Film

By

PRAGUE: The State Cinematography Fund will regularly receive money from the state budget.  The sum of approximately 180 to 200 m CZK will be granted to the Fund on annual basis as stated in the amendment to the audiovisual law approved by the House of Representatives this week.

Now the amendment needs only the signature of President to come in force.

One of the aims of the amendment is to create a new stable source of support for Czech cinema. The money should be primarily used for the support of production of Czech films and their promotion at home and abroad. The actual volume of the state support will according to the amendment depend on the revenues from audiovisual fees from the previous year.

The amendment will also help to encourage foreign filmmakers to shoot their films in the Czech Republic. Registration of a project will be possible at any time during the year which will allow the producers to plan their film budgets and production more effectively.
