The Czech/German/Slovak coproduction is set near the border with Germany, where a 15-year-old boy has to take on more adult responsibilities after the death of his mother. He deals with a handicapped younger sister, his father, who loses his job and turns to alcohol, first love with a 16-year-old German girl, and his own dreams of starting a horse farm with a close friend. The story is based on the award-winning young adult book by Iva Prochazkova, which has been published in the Czech Republic, Germany, France, Bulgaria and Poland.
The 1.35 m EUR film was produced by Daniel Severa Production, a Czech company which specialises in TV production. It was coproduced by Germany’s Kinderfilm and Slovakia’s Trigon Production, the Czech TV, Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk and the Slovak TV. The film has both a cinema and TV version. It was supported by the Czech Film Fund, the Slovak Audiovisual Fund and Germany’s MDM. The film is scheduled to be released in Slovak cinemas on 13 June 2019 distributed by Continental Film and in Czech cinemas on 11 July distributed by Bontonfilm.
