FNE at Karlovy Vary 2019 Works in Development: Rattlesnakes

By

KARLOVY VARY: Serbia’s Biberche Productions presented director Nikola Ljuca’s second film project Rattlesnakes during the Karlovy Vary IFF 2019 Industry Days. The drama is planned as a coproduction with Croatia and France, and the producers are looking for a Czech or Polish coproducer to join the project.

In describing the film, Ljuca said, “This is not a classical political thriller.” He plans a very stylised production with a heightened visual style, in a film that will explore extreme emotions and situations. The main characters are Nadja and Boris, a former activist couple. Nadja works for a large corporation with plans to buy an old weapons factory, and Boris is working on a Presidential campaign. Nadja is raped by a colleague and also discovers documents that could change the course of the campaign. Both events affect their personal and professional lives.

The budget is 838,000 EUR. Croatia’s Maxima film and France’s ASAP Films will coproduce. The producers are planning a 2021 release.
