Czech film sales led by I Served the King of England

    I Served the King of England by venerable Czech director Jiri Menzel was the Czech Republic's largest internationally successful film for 2007 through June of 2008, selling to 36 territories worldwide.

    It was followed by Jan Sverak's local box office success Empties, which sold in 11 territories including to multi-national distributors in Benelux and former Yugoslavia.

    The Czech Film Center (www.filmcenter.cz) released figures for 37 films released in the last 18 months at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival (KVIFF). Altogether the Center, under the direction of Jana Cernik, represented 31 Czech films at KVIFF, including two films in the main competition, two in the documentary competition, and one in the East of the West section.
