Estonian film production increases

    Estonia film production rose in 2009, according to official government statistics, with seven feature films released in cinemas, a major increase from the average four features over the course of the past decade. Including documentaries, a total of 25 full-length films were produced in Estonia.

    Short films, however, were on the decline, with 61 shorts produced in 2009, about half the annual average. Estonian films made up 8% of all theatrical releases, doubling the average showing of 4% in previous years. Attendance reached 1.7 miliion (approximately 1.3 visit per person), which ticket prices remained stable.

    Attendance for domestic films topped out at 6,500 for a feature film and 4,000 for a documentary film.
