By FNE Staff

Tallinn TV, a city TV channel which is due to begin broadcasting by 1 January 2011, has sparked a controversy in Estonia, with the Minister of Culture calling it "an example of vanity" according to local press.

The station will be broadcast via cable, which licenses are automatically granted by the Ministry if the application requirements are fulfilled. While there are no plans to pull the license, the minister voiced her objection to the channel based on economic considerations.

Tallinn TV will be required to broadcast a minimum of eight hours of programming daily. The license extends to 1 January 2014.
