Estonian films boost national cinema attendance

    Estonia topped 1.6 million in cinema attendance in 2007, a post-Soviet record, according to Statistics Estonia. Local films accounted for the largest increase, claiming 18% of cinema goers.

    Local news source The Baltic Course (www.baltic-course.com) reported that three Estonian films dominated the top ten: Jan Uuspold Goes to Tartu (73,000 tickets), Georg (49,000), and Autumn Ball (38,000). Total attendance for Estonian films was 210,000. Out of 155 films screened in cinemas, 28 were Estonian. Meanwhile, ticket prices have been holding steady at EEK68 (€4.35).
