Sas sets sights on Stars of Eger

Written by Gyorgy Karpati

Tamas Sas will direct Stars of Eger, based on Geza Gardonyi's 1899 novel voted the most popular book in Hungary in 2005.

A 1968 version directed by Zoltan Varkonyi was a big-budget and all-star cast epic. Sas (Espresso, S.O.S. Love, 9 ½ Dates) said he plans a modern adaptation rather than a remake. Currently working on the script, Sas is producing through his company Greenworks, planning a €13 million film with international co-producers, he told FNE. A 2010 release is planned.

The historical romance is set during the 16th century Hungarian victory over Turkish troops in Eger.
