RIGA: The 27th edition of the Baltic Sea Forum for Documentaries (BSD) has launched its call for applications. The most important documentary co-financing pitching event in the Baltic countries will be held in Riga 3 – 10 September 2023. The deadline for applications is 12 June 2023.

BSD is looking for projects from independent production companies from the wider Baltic Sea region, Eastern Europe and Caucasus region, and from other countries if the documentary subject relates to the region. Production companies from Russia and projects focusing on Russia are excluded from the possibility to apply.

The focus is on long creative documentary projects, but cross-media applications are also welcome. Eighteen projects will be selected.

This year the BSD’s industry section will include two new activities: The Coming Soon session for projects in postproduction previously pitched at the BSD, and a special networking event to enhance the collaboration between Baltic and European producers, which will be organised by CE Media desk's initiative Travelling Docs. There will be separate calls for these activities.

BSD is organised by the National Film Centre of Latvia, with financial support from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, Creative Europe Media programme “Markets & Networking”, and the Limbaži Municipality.
