Theatrical release for Polish doc The Lord of Carpathians Lord of Carpathians, director Krystian Matysek

WARSAW: Polish cinematographer, screenwriter and director Krystian Matysek’s wildlife documentary Lord of Carpathians (Niedźwiedź – Władca Gór) is hitting Polish TV screens after three years in production.

The film is one of the most complete studies of the bear ever to be filmed, making use of a number of pioneering observation techniques.

Shot in Germany, Ukraine, Slovakia and Poland during all four seasons, Lord of Carpathians looks at the significance of the brown bear to the natural ecosystem. Little is known about the rare species, which is threatened with extinction and lives almost exclusively in the Mountains of eastern and northern Europe.

Lord of Carpathians was produced by Jacek Kucharski and Marcin Wierzchosławski’s Metro Films (www.metrofilms.com). The documentary received financing from the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl) and the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (www.nfosigw.gov.pl). The budget is 900,000 PLN (219,871 EUR).

When the film was still in the very early stages of development, it was acquired by international sales agent UPSIDE Distribution (www.upsideditribution.com). Polish public broadcaster TVP2 (www.tvp.pl) holds the Polish rights and will broadcast the film on 7 October.
