WARSAW: Scottish theatre director Lee Mackintosh Jones is making his feature film debut with a Mother, a UK-financed film shot in Poland.

A drama now in postproduction, Mother is the story of a mother trying to repair her life and desperately trying to get back her son who was taken away by the boy's father and placed in foster care when the mother was unconscious from drinking.

Jones came to Silesia six years ago, fell in love with the region, and stayed on to create his own company and started a family. After graduating from Werner Herzog's Rouge Film School (www.roguefilmschool.com) he moved straight into the shoot of the film in August and September 2012.

The cast of accomplished Polish actors includes Zbyszek Cybulski Prize nominee Magdalena Czerwińska in the lead role, with Alina Chechelska, Julia Kijowska, Grzegorz Przyby and Dariusz Wiktorowicz. The director of photography is Paweł Dyllus.

The film is produced by Jones’ company Diabolical Liberties (www.diabolical-liberties.com) based in Katowice, which is debuting on the market with this project. The producer told FNE that the film’s budget is 1.3 million PLN (312,000 EUR), all coming from private investors in the UK, without financial input on the Polish side.

The premiere is planned for the spring of 2013.
