WARSAW: Polish public broadcaster TVP (www.tvp.pl) has launched the first HbbTV applications. The Polish pubcaster started broadcasting in hybrid mode on 10 December 2012 on all it's digital ground channels.

Hybrid television is a juncture between digital television and Internet, allowing the viewers to simultaneously watch the broadcast program and browse the web content prepared specially to accompany what can be seen on the screen. TVP is the second Polish broadcaster offering this type of service to its viewers. Private broadcaster TVN (www.tvn.pl) started HbbTV testing on the Polish market in March 2012.

The broadcaster informed the media that the main application introduced by TVP includes links to sub-applications of television channels as well as special commercial applications produced on TVP's commission. The first version of the service contains links to news content, weather and the Pytanie na śniadanie morning program.

Further development of the application is planned for spring 2013 with new sections on sport and culture, as well as separate applications for news shows Wiadomości, Telexpress and Panorama. A special application concerning the Television Theatre, including information on the show and its makers, has already been launched on 10 December 2012 along with a premiere broadcast of Tango directed by Jerzy Jarocki.
