The film, which is being produced by Michal Gozdzik of Teamwork Production and Lukasz Dziecol of Opus Film, already has 1.125m EUR in place. It received 1.4m PLN from the Polish Film Institute, 300,000 PLN from the Wroclaw regional fund Odra Film, and 500,000 PLN from distributor Kino Swiat. In addition, the film has received 1m PLN from Poland’s archival institution the National Audiovisual Institute, a sign of the importance and esteem accorded to Jarzyna’s work. Discussions are also underway with Polish TV. The production team was in Cottbus seeking the remaining 20% of the budget along with a coproducer who could bring in postproduction, music and sound elements, a composer, and musicians.
The film is based on a best-selling novel set in the post-WWII Wroclaw area, a no-man’s land at the border with Germany. The two main characters are a pair of outsiders looking for freedom during this time of a very oppressive regime, a young unemployed writer hired to be a driver for a young widow.
The film is scheduled to shoot in summer 2015.
