Poland saw admissions of 40.4m in 2014, of which 11m were for Polish titles. A total of 35.5m tickets were sold in the Polish cinemas in 2013, which was a significant drop from 38.5m tickets sold in 2012. According to the Polish Film Institute, European productions had admissions of 6.3m, approximately three times less than American productions with 19.7m admissions in 2014.
Domestic films noted growth in attendance in 2014. The domestic hit of the year was Łukasz Palkowski‘s drama Gods produced by Watchout Productions and distributed by Next Film, which had sold 2.1 m tickets as of 1 January 2015 and is still counting. Gods also topped the overall domestic chart and was closely followed by Jan Komasa’s Warsaw 44 produced by Akson Studio, with over 1.7m admissions. Warsaw 44 opened in Poland on 19 September 2014 and is distributed by Kino Świat.
The third place in the Polish 2014 BO is Władysław Pasikowski’s spy thriller Jack Strong produced by Socorpio Studio and distributed by ITI Cinema, which sold 1.1m tickets since 7 February 2014
In 2013 the attendance of Polish films reached 7.16m. The most popular Polish title was Traffic Department by Wojciech Smarzowski, produced by Film It and distributed by Next Film, with 1,015,418 tickets sold, followed by Wałęsa. A Man Of Hope directed by Andrzej Wajda, produced by Akson Studio and distributed by Vue Movie, with more than 1m admissions.
