The story follows two seventeen year old girls, Ania and Kasia, interns in a small hair styling salon. They both come from dysfunctional families and form a close bond. One day, Ania’s peace is disturbed when her mother, who she hadn’t seen for over half a year, shows up.
"I come from documentary cinema and while creating a fictional story I wanted to use my documentary experience. I assigned the two main roles to two authentic girls, who were entering maturity. Ania and Kasia stemmed their fictional characters from their own personal traits. Privately, the girls are close friends. Their strong bond was essential for me in creating a story showing a world in which not everything works perfectly", said the writer/director.
The producers are Jacek Bromski, Dariusz Gajewski and Ewa Jastrzębska. The film was produced by Munk Studio - Polish Filmmakers Association in coproduction with Krakow Festival Office and TVP with a budget of 696,117 EUR /3 m PLN including 464,078 EUR/ 2 m PLN of financing from the Polish Film Institute. The film also received financing from the Krakow Film Commission.
The film premiered internationally in the Main Competition of the 51st International Film Festival in Karlov Vary. It will be distributed in Poland by Kino Świat, but the date of the premiere has not yet been announced.
Grzegorz Zariczny, one of the most interesting Polish filmmakers of the younger generation, is most recognised for his short documentary The Dog Hill and short fiction film Our Bad Winter.
