Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson was awarded Best Director for Heartsone, a coproduction between Iceland and Denmark, while the winner of 1-2 Competition was the French production Toril directed by Laurent Teyssier.
The International Competition jury was composed of Ralitza Petrova (Bulgaria), Maria Sadowska (Poland), Bence Fliegauf (Hungary), Mehmet Can Mertoğlu (Turkey) and Rodrigo Plá (Mexico).
The FIPRESCI jury composed of Marcin Adamczak (Poland), Alberto Castellano (Italy) and Jan Schulz-Ojala (Germany) gave the award for best debut from Eastern Europe to the Bulgarian film Godless by Ralitza Petrova.
The 12th edition of the Centeast Warsaw annual industry event also took place as part of the festival from 14 to 16 October 2016 and included presentations of works-in-progress selected from Slovakia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Russia, Poland, Latvia, Georgia and Estonia. CentEast Market is co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.
