Wajda To Receive Top Polish Honour

    WARSAW: Polish director Andrzej Wajda, who turned 85 on 6 March 2011, will receive the Order of the White Eagle, Poland's highest state honour, at a ceremony on 21 March 2011. The award will be presented by Polish President Bronisław Komorowski.

    Wajda is being recognized for his work in both film and theatre. According to a report on Polish Radio, Wajda had a large file compiled by the secret police, but resisted collaborating. He was a critic of the Soviet system in such pro-Solidarity films as Man of Marble and Man of Iron,

    Wajda's many previous honors and awards include the Cannes Palme d'Or and the Oscar for Lifetime Achievement.
