The 950,000 EUR film is a coproduction with Russia produced by Burduli through his company Studio 29+7 and Pavel Odynin for his newly-established Moscow-based Paradox Films.
The film is based on the true story of a young pacifist doctor from Siberia, a cousin of the Russian producer, who relocated his wife and children to Georgia in 1991. When the civil war begins, he seeks a way out, leaving his family behind as he fleas to Moscow to find transport for his family via the black market.
The film will have an epilog shooting in Western Europe or Canada, and the producers are seeking a European DoP. Burduli is writing the second draft, and the producers will apply for funding in spring 2018, with plans to shoot in spring 2019.
Burduli’s debut film The Conflict Zone (2009) was in competition at the Cottbus Film Festival. He second film, The Summer of Frozen Fountains (2015) was a coproduction with Georgia’s Gemini Films, which premiered in competition at the Tallinn Black Nights festival.
