By

VENICE: FNE together with FIPRESCI have invited FIPRESCI critics in Venice to rate the films in all four of the official competition programmes of the festival giving the films 1,2,3,4 or 5 stars. The ratings provide an overview of what critics in many different countries think about the programme.

This year the Czech National Film Archives have teamed up with FNE to offer the first five participating critics a gift of a set of beautifully restored rare Czech classic films. The films include Black Peter (1964) directed by by Miloš Forman, The White Disease / Krakatit (1948) directed by Otakar Vávra, comedies The Good Soldier Svejk (1956) and Beg to Report (1957) directed by Karel Stekly, Ikarie XB 1 (1963) directed by Jindrich Polak and From Saturday to Sunday (1931) by Gustav Machatý. The DVDs also include exclusive bonus materials. These DVDs and many other restored classics of Czech film are also available at the NFA online e-shop.
