Record Number of Films Compete for Romania's Gopo Awards

    {mosimage}BUCHAREST: Bogdan George Apetri's Periferic/Outbound (www.periferic.ro), a Romanian-Austrian co-production between Saga Film (www.sagafilm.ro) and Aichholzer Filmproduktion (www.aifilm.at). leads the nominations for the 6th national Romanian Gopo awards (26 March) with 12 nods.

    And although Cristi Puiu withdrew himself from the nominations process, the jury gave his film Aurora 10 nods. Cătălin Mitulescu's Loverboy (www.loverboy.ro) has 9 nominations, and Adrian Sitaru's Din dragoste cu cele mai bune intenţii/Best Intentions gathered 8. Aurora is a production of Mandragora (www.mandragora.ro), in co-production with France's Société Parisienne de Production (www.thecopro.de), the Swiss company Bord Cadre Films (www.bordcadrefilms.com), and Germany's Essential Filmproduktion GmbH. Loverboy is produced by Strada Film (www.stradafilm.ro) in coproduction with the Swedish Film i Väst AB (http://www.filmivast.se/sv/Film-i-Vast/) and Chimney Pot (www.thechimneypot.com), and the Serbian Cinelabs Belgrade (www.cinelabs.rs). Best Intentions is produced by Ada Solomon and HiFilm (www.hifilm.ro) in co-production with Cor Leonis Films (www.corleonisfilms.hu) from Hungary, and Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan and 4Proof Film (www.4prooffilm.ro) from Romania.

Ferdynanda Magellana (www.fmagellan.pl), Adrian Sitaru's Din dragoste cu cele mai bune intenţii/Best Intentions and Cătălin Mitulescu's Loverboy.

    Cristi Puiu, Adrian Sitaru, Bogdan George Apetri and Cătălin Mitulescu are also nominated for Best Director. A total of 14 features are competing for a prize. This year set a record, with 89 films applying
    for nominations, among them 21 features, 20 documentaries and 60 short films. 36 European productions were also eligible for a nomination as Best European Film.

    The 6th Gopo Gala is organised by the Romanian Film Promotion (www.romfilmpromotion.ro) with the support of Babel Communications (www.babel.ro) and the National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro).
