Gordana Duspara Moriarty, Vice President of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc (www.turner.com) for CEE and Benelux, made the announcement in Bucharest.
The company is interested first in launching TNT in Romania. Three other Turner channels - Cartoon Network (www.cartoonnetwork.ro), Boomerang (www.cartoonnetwork.ro/boomerang) and Turner Classic Movies (www.tcm.com) are already operating there. Among them, Cartoon Network had an "exceptional" success last year, Moriarty said. At the end of 2009, with a rating of 4.3 points, Cartoon Network was a leader on the children market. 73% of children aged from 4 to 15 years watched it.
Moriarty said also that Cartoon Network, the only Turner channel airing advertisement, has witnessed a drop of 30% in 2009, the same as the general Romanian ad market. Romanian news agency Mediafax claims that Cartoon Network gained 1 million euro from advertising in 2009.
The first Turner channels launched in Romania were Cartoon Network and TCM, in 1999. In 2008 the company opened an office in Bucharest.
