The representatives from the sales agent Coproduction Office (www.coproductionoffice.eu) told FNE that the film has been sold in 12 territories: Austria (distributor Stadtkino, www.stadtkinowien.at) , Belgium (Lumière Productions, www.lumiereproductions.com), Bulgaria (A Plus Cinema, www.a-plusfilms.com), Hungary (Anjou Lafayette, www.anjoulafayette.eu), United Kingdom, Ireland (New Wave Films, www.newwavefilms.co.uk), Luxemburg (Lumière Productions), Mexico (Cineteca Nacional México, www.cinetecanacional.net), Netherlands (Lumière Productions), Portugal (Atalanta Film, www.atalantafilmes.pt), Spain (Aquelarre, www.aquelarrecine.com), Sweden (Novemberfilm, www.novemberfilm.com) and Yugoslavia (Megacom, www.mcf.rs).
The film premiered in Un Certain Regard section of Cannes Film Festival in 2010 and was screened at New York Film Festival with positive reviews from the North-American media.
Puiu cast himself as the main character, a mentally-challenged divorced man who murders in cold blood three people in the 180 minutes of the film.
Aurora is produced by the Romanian company Mandragora (www.mandragora.ro), in co-production with France's Société Parisienne de Production (www.thecopro.de), the Swiss company Bord Cadre Films (www.bordcadrefilms.com), and Germany's Essential Filmproduktion GmbH. The producers are Anca Puiu, Bobby Păunescu, Philippe Bober, Dan Wechsler and Susanne Marian.
The shooting took place between February and May 2009. The Romanian premiere is tentatively set for February 2012, the producer Anca Puiu told FNE.
