New Regulations for Gopo Film Awards

By Iulia Blaga

BUCHAREST: A record 56 films have been submitted for the 5th edition of the Romanian Gopo prizes (www.premiilegopo.ro). Among them 16 are feature films, 10 documentaries and 30 short films which premiered in 2010.

The ceremony will take place on 28 March 2011. Romanian Film Promotion (www.romfilmpromotion.ro) is organising the event together with Babel Communication and the National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro).

New regulations for the prizes start this year, thanks to the success of the long documentary The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceauşescu by Andrei Ujică. Full length documentaries screened in the local cinemas are now eligible for categories where only the features competed before: best film, best director, original music, cinematography, editing and sound. Two documentaries are now competing for nominations in those catogories, The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceauşescu/Autobiografia lui Nicolae Ceauşescu and Kapitalism - Our Secret Recipe/Kapitalism - reţeta noastră secretă by Alexandru Solomon. Both films are competing also for a nomination for the best documentary.

A new category was established for the best first feature film.
